Why we're building Spud
Open the fridge at 6pm and it's the same story: a few vegetables, some half-used condiments, maybe an egg or two. Nothing that looks like a meal on its own — so it's easier to order takeout than to figure out what to do with what's already there.
That's the problem Spud is built around. Most recipe apps work backwards from your perspective: you find something you want to cook, then go shopping for it. Great if you're planning ahead, useless at 6pm on a Tuesday.
Starting from what you have
Spud flips that around. Tell it what's in your kitchen — by typing it in or scanning a barcode — and it shows you recipes ranked by how much of each one you can already make. A 100% match means walk straight to the stove. A near-match tells you exactly what you're missing, if anything.
Expiry-first, not just inventory
A pantry list on its own doesn't stop food from going bad. Spud tracks expiry dates and surfaces what's about to turn, then prioritizes recipes that use it up — so the wilting spinach or the tomatoes past their best get cooked before they're binned.
Where we are
We're in early testing now, refining the recipe matching and the weekly planner before a wider release. If that sounds useful, join the waitlist — we'll let you know the moment it's ready.
